DyKnow Monitor FAQs How is DyKnow Monitor different than other classroom management software?Unlike other classroom management products, DyKnow Monitor uses a client-server design to send information over the network. This means DyKnow Monitor can scale from a few users to hundreds of users without an interruption in usage. DyKnow Monitor is optimized for both wired and wireless environments. Teachers and students can roam freely around the room, or even be outside the classroom and still experience the full functionality. DyKnow Monitor can be purchased with DyKnow Vision, DyKnow's classroom interaction software that features collaborative note taking, student response tools, content replay and anywhere, anytime access. These products use a single interface to keep students on task and foster interaction in the classroom. Both DyKnow Vision and DyKnow Monitor are easily managed through a web-based interface. Both DyKnow software products also come with consulting and support for customers. Each DyKnow customer is assigned a customer relationship manager who assists schools with all aspects of the implementation process – from technically preparing for deployment to training teachers and staff. In addition, DyKnow's technical support team can troubleshoot problems if they arise. How do teachers monitor the correct student computers?DyKnow Monitor identifies computers with machine-specific information and optional user rosters, so there is no need to worry about making changes to a physical environment or network. This information is verified by user login or even domain or LMS authentication. If each student has a laptop, the teacher monitors by class roster. At the end of class she “releases” the computers or waits for the next teacher to take over monitoring of those student computers. Does the software work in wireless environments?DyKnow Monitor and DyKnow Vision are designed for 802.11x environments. The client-server design ensures that DyKnow products scale from a few users to hundreds of users without an interruption in usage. How is the software licensed? What is the cost?DyKnow Monitor is licensed per computer and is purchased as a perpetual license, allowing customers to use the software forever. For more on cost visit the DyKnow Monitor pricing page. How is training delivered?Because DyKnow Monitor works easily over a distance, training is most often delivered live virtually through the Web or by using sister product DyKnow Vision. Training is coordinated and delivered by a customer relationship manager who is assigned to each school and sees the school through the implementation and training process. Customer relationship managers also provide a resource to schools on how to optimize DyKnow usage. Does the software work on a Mac computer? At this time there is not a version of DyKnow Monitor that runs on Mac OS X. What hardware do I need to run the software?DyKnow Monitor can be used in any classroom where teachers want to monitor student activity on computers. Because DyKnow Monitor runs using a client-server design, schools must utilize a server to transmit information between teacher and student computers. If a school does not have access to a server running Microsoft SQL Server software (link to http://dyknow.com/monitor/techspecs.aspx) , DyKnow offers ASP hosting services. The DyKnow sales team can review ASP hosting pricing for any institution (mail to:sales@dyknow.com). Does DyKnow support server virtualization?DyKnow supports VMWare server virtualization. Visit recommended specs (http://www.dyknow.com/service-support/server-specs.aspx). Does the software integrate with my other systems?DyKnow Monitor can be set up with DyKnow Vision to authenticate to Microsoft Active Directory LDAP and most versions of Blackboard Learning Management System. The benefit is that system administrators must only enter student names and class rosters once and both systems are updated.
