With the release of DyKnow Vision and Monitor 5.0 in May of 2007, DyKnow integrated with the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS). Below are some frequently asked questions:

What does the integration mean?

In short, it means information authentication. When the Blackboard Building Block is activated in Blackboard LMS and the hook activated in the DyKnow server, users will be able to sign onto DyKnow with credentials that are checked against the Blackboard database. The information, including user ID, name, and associated course enrollments will then be pulled back into the DyKnow client software and populated.

Do the locations of the Blackboard and/or DyKnow servers matter?

No! Since the module is a web service, it is accessible anywhere there is a connection to the Internet. If you use the Blackboard LMS hosted solution, however, you will need to request that Blackboard installs the DyKnow Building Block to activate the service.

What is the version compatibility?

DyKnow Vision 5.0+ and the DyKnow Suite 5.0+ will work with Blackboard LMS 7.1+, except for Blackboard Learning System Basic, Blackboard System CE, or Blackboard Learning System Vista.

Is there an extra fee for this service?

No! This service comes with a DyKnow Vision and/or DyKnow Monitor software purchase. Blackboard also currently offers the use of their Building Blocks with any Blackboard LMS purchase.

How can I benefit?

Time savings - Since DyKnow software will be able to authenticate and populate current, critical information against the Blackboard database, DyKnow administrators save the time they would have spent manually inserting CSV lists into the DyKnow server and managing associated changes.

What are future possible integrations?

Ideas for expanding this integration range from having a thin client DyKnow file viewer inside Blackboard LMS to being able to save DyKnow files to the Blackboard database from within the DyKnow client. Nothing is set but discussion will begin in June for the next year's upgrade. Please send feature feedback to support@dyknow.com.
