In my opinion, teaching is all about helping students draw parallels between what they are learning and the real world. Many of these kids just don’t see how the things we teach are actually applicable to them. I also think we have to be genuinely enthusiastic about education and all the possibilities life as to offer in terms of knowledge. I want them to be engaged in the world we live in and have a natural interest in learning new things. Cultivating that excitement is so important. Continue reading

O’Brien is a science instructor and the dean of studies at Brisbane Boys’ College (BBC) in Queensland, Australia. He believes getting students to “articulate their learning process” is an important part of “creation of knowledge.” However, prior to implementing a one-to-one tablet PC program, doing this wasn’t always as valuable as he envisioned: paper and pencil only provided a static image of problems worked during class.
